Why garaging location matters
Truck insurance is rated partly on where units are garaged and the territory they operate in. Dense urban routes bring more low-speed collisions and theft; rural and mountain routes bring higher speeds, wildlife and winter weather. Neither is automatically cheaper, which is why underwriters ask for both base ZIP and radius.
Carriers that cross the state, for example from the Port of New York and New Jersey to distribution centers near Albany or Syracuse, are rated on the full operation, not only the home base.
